Michael Pettry has served on the staff of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir since 2004. As the Executive Director, Pettry oversees the sustainability of the organization, including strategic planning, development, marketing, public relations and finances. During his tenure, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir has enjoyed significant growth in a variety of areas. Bucking a national trend of declining season ticket sales, the Symphonic Choir has increased season subscription revenue and individual ticket sales annually. Compared to other similar choral organizations across the nation, the Symphonic Choir is producing more concerts, outreach initiatives and development events than the average organization possessing an annual operating budget nearly three-times that of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. At the heart of Pettry's financial leadership is the growth and diversification of all revenue streams, particularly individual donors, corporate sponsorships, and foundation giving. Goals for individual contributions have been surpassed annually, most recently by 115% - each year surpassing a "stretch" goal. 100% of the board of directors contributes financially to the organization, and an increasing number of singers donate financially to the organization (beyond the 220+ hours of volunteer time through rehearsals and events). More corporate sponsors have stepped-up as a champion and supporter of the organization than in the past, both in terms of dollar amount and number of sponsors. Recently, the organization received the second-largest multi-year grant in its 73-year history totaling a quarter of a million dollars. Revenue via special fundraising events has increased during Pettry's tenure has increased, and new fundraising programs have been launched to meet the needs of the respected arts organization. Beyond fundraising, Pettry launched a comprehensive PR and branding campaign upon his arrival. Consistently producing effective, unique and strategic communications campaigns, the organization's reach throughout the community has never been stronger through media coverage, special events, direct mail pieces, and the use of emerging media trends. Pettry holds a Masters degree from Butler University, and the Bachelor of Music from Ball State University. |
